JAY'S TRIP TO FLORIDA 2004

  • Robinson 'represents' in Florida -- Will Hanna, 15:02:00 11/23/04 Tue
just wanted to give some props to Jay Robinson aka the 'Footbrakin Fool' for turning some heads at the Moroso 5 Day Bracket Championships in West Palm Fla. Frustrated with his lack of round wins with the delay box and tbrake in Bradenton, Robinson went back to his tried and true footbrake roots in Moroso and found results right off the bat. We put our heads together and knew most people out east would not know that he's one of the best bottom bulber's there are out there (more on this later in the story), so Jay wrote in shoe polish Footbrakin on the back and his new nickname the 'Footbrakin Fool' on the front window. He then proceded to hustle the competition. Here's the guy with his lil ol nova in a vast sea of 7.50 dragsters (they are fast out east), so Jay would go over to his dragster competition before the round, give them his dial for them to put in their cross over box with the line 'take it easy on me, im just footbrakin. i just come out here to have a good time.' as i was watching from a distance, when he said that you could see the wheels starting to turn in their heads. how much delay should they put in? how soft should they dial. after all, there's no judging the stripe when their dialed 7.50 and he's at 11.14. jay went 4 rounds (no buy backs at these races, so my 'buyback express' entry was hurting..) taking out george tamasi jr in the 3rd round in the process. we aint talkin easy rounds either. jay put together a string of lights .011, .014 and .012 in three rounds while running dead on his 11.14 dial. in round 4 the word was out on the footbrake hustla' and there was no rolling delay in for him. he 'slipped' if you can call it that to a .032 and the guy got him with an .009 light and dead on with a 2. he still made the money round (32 cars) footbrakin at arguably one of the most prestigous bracket races of the year. the rest of the week didn't go his way, as he lost some close races on some very tight packages, and one -.001 light. everybody had heard about 'that guy that's footbraking' by the end of the weekend. then one night after the race, we come up on some guys (the big dogs in big money bracket racing, williams brothers, kenny underwood, sway, and pete biondo among others) in a practice tree tournament, and jay takes home the cash, taking out hitters in the process. after that, everyone says 'nobody out here's quicker than biondo, put the same delay in and go heads up with him' . jay rolls 1.18 in with biondo, in a best of 5. biondo was impressed, and hopefully that may open some doors for jay in the world of bottom bulb racing.

as for me, nothing big to write home about, went rounds a few days, fought some bugs in the car most of bradenton, then in moroso could never get the car and driver on the same page. i wish i could have done better, but considering i haven't run electronics since the hangover nationals in sealy, it was quick progress even to go rounds.

the year isn't quite over yet for either one of us, as jay will head out to hattiesburg, ms this weekend for their $1000 a day footbrake race and i'll be off to clearwater, fl for two 5 granders on friday and sat.

well, i'll quit takin up space. still missin' Texas! - Will
